After waiting two years for the next volume in the Caves of Thailand series to be published two volumes have now been published in two months. Volume six - The Caves of Nan and Phrae – was published in February 2011.
Nan and Phrae are two adjoining provinces in the north of Thailand. Information on a total of 127 caves and sites of speleological interest in Nan is detailed in this guidebook. The results of Shepton Mallet Caving Club expeditions in 2009 and 2010 to the northern part of the Doi Phuka National Park, which explored and surveyed what is currently the deepest known cave in Thailand, are included. There are also sixteen cave surveys, some of which are previously unpublished.
Although there are some extensive karst areas in the Phrae only 24 caves and other sites have been recorded in the province and this region is very under explored.
The Caves of Thailand series is published at Lulu and is available either from the Bookshop on this website or from here for £15.00.
Work on the text of the next volume, Phetchabun, is complete. All that is required is for me to go out and survey some of the caves.
